Shiny lush green oval fronds. Prefers dry situations in semi shade and good soil.  Can be epiphytic. Easily grown though often rather slow to establish. An attractive and popular plant widely used for mass plantings in shaded sites. Susceptible to scale and mealy bug infestations and snail damage - keep an eye out for this. An excellent pot plant.
 
Wes remembers as a child, seeing it planted in an old kerosene can outside several South Island homes. The main picture here is a large lush specimen which thrived, despite neglect, at the base of a large Rimu on a bank at our Oratia property.
