Deparia petersenii - (was Athyrium japonicum)

Creeping semi-deciduous fem. Upright juicy dark green fronds. Coastal to lowland (rarely montane). A weedy fern of river flats, disturbed forest, forest margins, rough pasture, willow car and urban situations. Prefers damp ground and/or semi-shade to heavy shade.  Easy to grow. Good ground cover in semi-shade and slightly moist conditions.

  • Notes

    At Oratia, our pole house had a weedy, sloping area under it. We established Deparia petersenii there and it kept the weeds down as it spread and was easy to control.
