Lomaria discolor - Crown Fern (was Blechnum discolor)

Lomaria discolor - Crown Fern (was Blechnum discolor)

A striking, large ground fern. Often in symmetrical clumps with short trunks. The new unfurling fronds slowly change from a buttery-green colour to deeper jade-green when mature - hence "discolor". Fronds spread out in the form of a crown like a shuttle-cock with the fish bone shaped fertile fronds standing stiffly in the centre. Will produce more crowns surrounding the original over time.

Easy to grow in gentle shade and moist, free-draining soil. Looks best grown in a group. Will do well for a few years in pots, then plant out.

Was known as Blechnum discolor.
