Parablechnum procerum -Small Kiokio (was Blechnum procerum)

Usually forms extensive patches in more open forest. Short, creeping rhizome that produces clumps of leathery, bonzed fronds with a compact tidy habit. Found from lowland to alpine areas among forest, scrub, and tussock in New Zealand. Fronds of mountain kiokio have been traditionally used to wrap food in whilst it is cooked.

 

An attractive fern that makes a great landscaping groundcover. Not usually available in cultivation. Grows well in a pot.

    Spread 1.0m but can eventually cover a bigger area.
